START WITH WHAT YOU HAVE AND WHERE YOU'RE AT

I grew up in a small room in gbagada with my parents and siblings. And while growing, my parents tried all they could to inform my siblings and I on the importance of being contented with what we have, especially when we know exactly what we want.

Some weeks ago while having a discussion with my dad, he said "never should you engage in a get-rich-quick scheme" and I figured young people of these days just want to break free from being broke to being rich without working hard for what they want.

Biko, let me digress a bit...

So, I was watching a Nollywood movie sometime ago and Jide Kosoko went to an herbalist for money rituals. The herbalist said to him "my friend, you don't have to be hasty.. you will get rich soon"

He replied "I said I want money ritual, I can't wait anymore. I am tired of waiting."

The argument went on and on till the herbalist gave up and asked him to bring the things needed for rituals. He requested for a big goat and some other things.

Not too long, Jide Kosoko became stinkingly rich..  and a problem came up that he needed the intervention of the herbalist. When he asked of what he could do to appease the Spirit, the herbalist laughed and said

"My friend, I told you not to do money ritual but you were so adamant about it. Well, I didn't do any rituals for you, the goat and the other things were eaten by my family. The source of your wealth is not money rituals but from God."

Whenever I think about this movie, I realize how young people run after what God has given to everyone already. Most of the young people I've met don't want to work hard to get what they want. Most will say "me I didn't come to this world to come and suffer o, I cannot come and kill myself."

And some of the ones that even have plans of doing something good in life will say "I can't start this fashion house till I have an industrial machine, I can never start with a needle and thread, which kind suffer head work be that?"

"He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much."

Luke 16:10

I feel God will never give you what he feels you are not prepared for. When you look at the likes of Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates etc, and you read on where they started from, you will realize that all the glamour you see today started with being focused on their goals, contented, while still working hard for more, and patience. They had a whole lot of patience to build that wealth they have today. I remembered the time I chose the career path of a camera person, the first thing I ever bought was a Tripod. I bought a Tripod when I had no money for a camera. I believe if I had told someone before I made such move, the person would have said "Joseph, you mean you want to buy a Tripod when you don't even have any money for a Camera, what do you intend using a Tripod for?" Lol, it must have been a crazy move to make but I believe, I did that because I knew what I wanted, where I wanted to be and how I was going to get there. I also knew that initially I had wanted to start very big but I figured my parents aren't financially buoyant to incur the kind of expense I was creating for myself. So I had to break down what I wanted to smaller bits while being focused on the bigger prize.

I shot my first series of short films with a phone, taught English language to earn enough to buy equipments.

Anyone that sees my little gadgets will assume I bought all at once, but I have been buying one needle at a time since 2015 and I am not done buying.

So, start with what you have, don't be ashamed of your humble beginning. Something good is going to happen for sure.

"I am interested in seeing you become a better person while I work on me too."
