DON'T BOTHER READING IF YOU'RE NOT A WRITER

DON'T BOTHER READING IF YOU'RE NOT A WRITER

Written By Felix Eshiet

Many a writers have outrightly proclaimed themselves  savvy doyens and doyennes whose views and nuggets regards writing are iron-clad and fail-proof as long as writing is concerned. That's laudable though but I swore to steer clear from this caliber of writers with every bit of my being.

Indisputably, it is possible to attain mastery to a level that you turn out to be a force to reckon with in your field, but the predominant no-one-does-it-better-than-me syndrome displayed by writers is not just a massive turnoff to many but a matter of doing great disservice to themselves.

Most annoyingly, they feel and claim that their formula,  principles and hacks works for everybody— this indictable fallacy makes me cringe.  Take it or debunk it, there can never be a single route in our journey to stardom... other routes might be decoys or prototypes. Right?  Truth is, what turns out to be the best route to MR. A might not take Mr. B anywhere close to the prize.

One said to me as-a-matter-of-factly, “ as a newbie writer, gliding and fluctuating across different niches unclads suicidal tendencies for your career. " Inasmuch as that tomfoolery might be accepted by many, it's misleading and egregious to me.

Don't take my word for it but scrutinize it thoroughly probably during your leisure. Between  sticking to a particular niche with little or no clarity and testing the waters of other niche, which will you recommend for a budding writer?

When I started out, I went extramiles. I dished out contents niche regardless. Ranging from health,  poetry, politics, national interests to religions and entertainment. I set no boundaries.

How did that help me?  Amazingly, I knew where I excelled and where my efforts were  vanquished. I knew my capabilities as well as weaknesses.

Positioning myself in the right circles and around the right people, I knew exactly where my gold laid.

I finally found strength and great command of inspiration in few select niches. I stuck to them, hankered  for more exposure and succumbed to numerous tutelages— Now I can tell without batting an eyelid where I am headed.

I fell in love with the personal development niche... today, my contents are gracing web pages and magazines.

I fell in love with the creative writing niche... today, my crime fictions have footprints in renowned literary magazines.

With the many sub-niches ebbed into these niches, I'm still in the job of exploring.

Don't take this hook,  line and sinker. But get the underlying message; you'll never know where your gold is hidden save you dig as wide and deep as you can.

Not even my preacher would have convinced me two years ago that I'll be a multiple award-winning creative writer today.  I never saw it coming!

Don't let a self-proclaimed writer force his principles on you... What blaze the trail for them might wreck you uncoverable damages.

Keep exploring...

Keep learning...

Keep staying committed to the process...
