THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF WRITING : GUIDELINES FOR EFFECTIVE AND PROFITABLE WRITING.
1. Thou shall not stop writing ... One thing many do not know is that the creative process of a writer is often 30% frustration, 20% stress/overthinking perfection, 40% procrastination and 10% actual writing. In all of these, you've to keep going. Consistency is the mother of perfection.
2. Thou shall creatively discover your niche and diligently remain therein … The struggle to have an established target audience is proof that you do not comprehend the style that suits you best. Find your place and stay.
3. Thou shall be a voracious reader and consistently give yourself unto knowledge ... Read deep. Read wide. Participate in workshops, webinars or live events related to your skill either as a participant or volunteer. Submit yourself to relevant knowledge continuously.
4. Thou shall allow budding writers and to drink from your well of knowledge … Your willingness to teach developing writers will help sharpen your skill, broaden your mind and level up your skill. You're not an isle of knowledge . Hence, the thought of hoarding the things you know to yourself is unnecessary. As you invest in yourself, invest in others. Tangible impact and influence actually emanates from your investment in the lives of men.
5. Thou shall diligently keep a journal or jotting pad … If you struggle to keep a personal journal on a consistent basis, it's obvious you'd struggle to create meaningful and well structured contents.
6. Thou shall greatly adore writing amongst all other 'gods.' (skills) ... Avoid being a jack of all trade and a master of none. You won't be able to achieve sustainable results until you stop seeing writing as 'one of those abilities' you have. Be intentional.
7. Thou shall have a mentor or coach … Via mentorship, you do not always have to learn by trial and error. It would save you from necessary and unnecessary stress.
8. Thou shall not write a content that's void of values … In all thy doings, the desire to be valuable should supersede your desire to make income. Values will keep your audience craving for more and as soon as they are aware of the stuffs you're made of, no amount will be too expensive to reward you with.
9. Thou shall write a book at least once in your lifetime ... As long as you have the ability to hold a pen to write, there's an hidden author in you. Be determined to document your life experiences, values and opinions you have on some certain subjects before your time on this side of eternity lapses.
10. Thou art not permitted to use contents from other writers without acknowledging them/without their permission … Using contents without acknowledging the true source is a testament to the truth that you lack the ability to write a mind boggling content. Moreover, taking something without the owner' consent is best described as stealing. This act has the tendency to destroy your uniqueness and make your creativity become so blunt.
