INSECURITY CHALLENGES IN THE NORTH

Article Written By Muhammad sani junior

A lot has been said concerning the issue of insecurity in the northern region of the federal republic of Nigeria. I could remember when boko haram started their mischievous act back in 2009 which coincided with Our gang cheeky behavior in my secondary school days, As a result of the Boko haram emergence I and my gang was named assembly haram due our constant absent at the assembly ground.

Boko haram has long been invading communities, killing them and ravaging their properties in the of establishing Islamic state in the north eastern part of Nigeria, and now another deadly force known as bandits have emerged and begun to disturb the peaceful  citizens of northern Nigeria.

Kidnapping for ransom has become a business among the fulani youths who were known as cattle rearers, this has raised a lot of questions among Nigerians regarding the cause of Boko haram, kidnapping and and banditry.

After a lot of research I finally come to understand that the real cause of Insecurity in Nigeria specifically north is illiteracy and poverty. According to the statistics Northern Nigeria is the most poorest region in Nigeria inspite of being the food basket of the nation, However lack of western and proper Islamic education led many people to Join Boko haram.

Uncontrolled childbearing without the means to take care of them also count as one of the causes. Quite a lot of people are still opposing western education in the north, they are refusing to enroll their children into schools thinking that they will end up renouncing their Islamic faith and become Christians because that's how western education was introduced not knowing that the knowledge is what we need not thier religion or culture.

It's an obvious fact which everyone knows that fulanis that live in the Forest don't even care to go to school except those that live in towns or cities, they do not see future with acquiring knowledge since it has nothing to do with their Cows. Therefore nothing can stop them from becoming criminals since their brains are empty.

In conclusion, as a northerner I learnt that we must educate our children especially fulanis who live in the forest to tackle insecurity  .
