Hi Friend,

Are You Making These 5 Productivity Mistake?

If you're still working from home like I am, then I'm sure you'll be looking for new ways to stay productive as many of us remain in this situation globally.

Some of you might be used to it? Some might be getting sick of it? Some might still be having a hard time focusing, or trying to build an optimum work space..

I'm not going to share more productivity tips with you today. Instead I'm going in the opposite direction 🤓

I want to point out some productivity mistakes to avoid! That's because, some of them are things you might not even have realized or thought about, but can do wonders to your energy and focus levels.

The first is..don't give up on your commute time. 🚌 🚊 🚘

I know it sounds strange, but if you used to listen to music, a podcast, or read during your commute to work, don't stop doing that as you’d be surprised by how this mindless task can have an influence on your day-to-day life.

Or if you used to walk or cycle to the office, walk around the estate instead or to the nearest park. This is especially useful if you're going to be spending the rest of the day sitting.

And then we have... working from your bed.  💤 🛏

I can't say this enough. Don't! For so many reasons...

Bad ergonomics..posture..you just don't want to blur the lines between sleep, rest and comfort, with working.

Another silent productivity mistake is skipping... meals! 🚫 🍝

It can be tempting to avoid lunch when you have back-to-back meetings and phone calls, but without breaks, you run the risk of overeating at dinner or snacking mindlessly on calorie-dense foods.

Working from home provides a unique opportunity to maintain or improve your health since you have the convenience of walking over to the kitchen in seconds!

Now, I get it, working at home means you're home most of the time. So it's easy to let your entire home become your office space.. but don't! 🏠 👨‍💻

Again, you shouldn't blur the lines. Just like how you need a space that is conducive to work, you also need a space that is conducive to unwind and relax. Your relaxation space should be a haven from stress, not another source.

So if you’re unable to set up a separate home office, be sure to shut down your computer and file away any paperwork or other reminders of the workday as soon as you sign off for the night.

Last but not least.. not setting boundaries with colleagues and/or clients is a productivity killer! 📵

When you're working from home, it's very easy to start checking your email before you even get out of bed and continue to do work-related tasks straight through into the evening simply because it's there or opting to respond to clients at all hours of the day because they know you’re already at home.

But being constantly available means you're not giving yourself a break to intentionally unwind. And in the long run, this can lead to burn out without you even realizing..

So set some clear boundaries. Let colleagues and clients know what your contact hour are, and make it a point to 'switch off' after a certain time.

Working from home may be the new norm or permanent for some, so keep trying new ways to create that optimum work environment that not only benefits your productivity, but also allowing for proper rest and recharge as that is equally important in keeping your energy levels and spirits up!

And if you know that you've been struggling to stay focused during this time at home, and want to be able to manage your time better, and execute your priorities effectively in this climate, then check out this Focus Framework that I use.

Cheers,
Leon
