DON'T BE A FAMILIAR FRIEND, BE A CLOSE FRIEND!

"Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me." (Psalm 41:9)

It wasn't really Judas that betrayed Jesus, it was the familiarity in him that betrayed Jesus. Familiarity is a function of betrayal. The Word of God can betray your worth in Christ if built upon the template of familiarity. So, Jesus called His disciples friends because they had access to His deep secrets, only Judas among them was a familiar friend which was excommunicated from the group and was denied access to the deep things of God.

Even if you have a close friend as a mentor to you, don't build familiarity otherwise you will deny yourself of the portraits of the wisdom and shortchange yourself from the nuggets that proceeds out from the loins. There are levels of encounters that you'll never acquire personally because you're too acquainted with the vessel that God uses. Don't be a familiar friend, be a close friend!
