THE BEAUTY OF TRUTH
THE BEAUTY OF TRUTH
=====================

Some time ago, my little cousin asked for my phone because the environment was dark and he needed to illuminate it with the phone's touch light to continue his work. Unhesitatingly, I granted his request and fled to assist a woman who'd called for my help.
.
.
On my return, I found my phone laying helplessly on the table, in the sitting room. It looked pretty bad. My heart jogged. What'd happened to my phone, I thought. I hefted it, pressed the control button to turn it on, but It wouldn't respond after several trials.
.
.
I felt a rush of anger like a bandage covered my face. I scrambled into the bedroom and found the culprit nodding off. Any time my cousin sleeps, waking him up is like warfare and I wasn't prepared to add that to my vexation, to avoid killing somebody. So, I decided to sleep on the matter.
.
.
Morning came so fast. I picked my phone which was by my bedside to check the time, then I recalled that yesterday's event wasn't a dream.
.
.
Fiam! I rushed out of the bed, yelling his name. I was prepared to teach him the kind of lesson I was taught when I carelessly poured away a pot of soup. My mum noticed and tried to protect him, but as it was in me, only God will redeem him from being whipped.
.
.
"Oga what happened to my phone," I yelled, slinging the stroke of cane I held before him.
"I'm sorry, sister. The the..." he stammered. "The phone fell inside the drum of water while I was washing the plate. The drum was so deep and I was unable to remove the phone immediately." Tears welled up in his little eyes. "I was scared to tell you, that's why I went to bed early." He stretched his joined palms together as he pleads guilty.
.
.
My heart melted. I wished I had flogged him before asking. I had a change of heart, because my conscience wouldn't allow me to lift a finger on him. I had to forgive him.
.
.
Just there, I realized that saying the truth at all costs matters a lot. The truth can melt a stiff heart and make it deal fairly with you. But lying will only produce more lies to conceal the initial lie.
.
.
"Truth is like surgery, it hurt but cures. Lie is like a pain killer, it gives instant relief but has side effects forever."
It takes strength and courage to admit the truth.
.
.
If you are the type that lies without blinking, shame on you. learn from my cousin. Let's carry about a truthful tongue as we relate with God and man.
