How To Become  A Super  Prioritizer

Time is all about change.

Over time, different aspects of your life either trend positively, negatively, or stay stagnant. But for change to happen, you need to invest in actions. and actions cost time.

And of course, everyone wants to have a trend of positive change, so why does it seem so hard to achieve?

That's simply because of this thing called priority chaos...which is the struggle that our brain goes through when differentiating between short term and long term goals and benefits.

We’re so used to treating important and less important actions the same way, often not conscious of how much time we’re actually putting into each. It’s very easy to lose track of time!

For example..

You receive a Facebook notification. You thought you'd have a quick look. Next thing you know, you've been scrolling through your news feed for the last 10 mins.

Sounds like not that big a deal right? but imagine you're doing this every time you receive a notification? All those minutes add up to hours... hours to days... you get the idea!

So how can you better evaluate what's really important, and what's not?

I guess it's the age old quest of learning how to prioritize better right? But how?

What I usually do, is determine the value of a task or action and prioritize only the high value tasks/actions. And I do this using the Super Structure method.

The first thing, is to set a clear intention, followed by categorizing your tasks into:
  1. Must have
  2. Should have
  3. Good to have

Next, quantify each task by giving it a value or a number. For example on a scale of 1 - 10.

And finally, give a cost estimate. For example, how long will it take you to complete that task?

This is the basics of the Super Structure Method that I use to prioritize my tasks, and to help you, I've included a worksheet you can download which gives more details on how to use the Super Structure Method.

Learning how to identify high value tasks and actions is just one aspect that has helped me manage my time and efforts better. But looking at the bigger picture, all these tasks and actions that you're taking is really to fulfill a goal or desire right?

So how can you ensure that all these goals you have, are aligned such that you're getting the most, or helping you to live your best life?

You'll need to be more than just a master prioritizer. Want to know what I do?

Check out this framework that I've been using for years.

Cheers,
Leon
