Over the past few days, I've been showing you how to discover opportunities within your obstacles, and how you can use those opportunities to break free from your current situation to achieve your true goals and dreams in life.
It is all very achievable once you're able to see things from a different perspective, and use that new frame of mind and direction to overthrow the challenges and obstacles you're facing.
I want to share with you a story of my friend's aunt who is a great example of how she overcomes her limitations and uses them as opportunities to push herself towards constant improvement...
Nancy has been a stay-at-home mom ever since she had children. Some may consider being a stay-at-home mom an obstacle to achieving many traditional life goals, but it really depends on your mindset.
In Nancy's case, she's always defined her self image as a "stay at home mom" in a different way from other stay at home moms. Instead of just seeing her role limited to her family, she saw it as a calling to be become a mentor for other moms, parents, and families too.
Using this role as a foundation, she's been able to branch out into different areas that allows her to expand her influence. For example, she taught herself to become an expert at efficient/economical home cooked meals and started meticulously recording her recipes and methods.
She then taught herself how to do desktop publishing and started making her own cookbooks, which she then shared at her local community church. Within 3 years, Nancy had a line of quarterly cook books and food related calendars published.
Another interesting hobby Nancy took up, was woodcrafts. Again, she taught herself how to do woodworking and started making small pieces of furniture and decorations. Her husband eventually converted their basement into a woodworking workshop and together, both husband and wife started making furnitures and are now pretty famous in their community. They've been featured on magazines, and even on television!
They also started working on landscaping and converted their simple backyard into an elaborate garden now filled with a Koi sanctuary, multi level deck, a swing set and different types of flowerbeds.
The lesson here, is that Nancy was not college educated. She never had a regular full time job and had to raise two kids who were 8 years apart. She's always been a stay-at-home mom, but she's never let her education, circumstances or even skills hold her back.
She is always one who lives for obstacles, is ambitious and optimistic about the opportunities that comes her way. She doesn't wait for them to appear, instead she finds them through these obstacles and uses it to her advantage.
So right now, if you've taken the time to put to practice what I've shared with you over the past few days, and are feeling inspired to do more and start making use of your new found opportunities, then I encourage you to check out this free FastTrack class that we've created at Lifehack.
